New York City-based jazz vocalist and lyricist Dorian Devins and her band perform in jazz clubs, wines bars and restaurants as well as in festivals in her home city and across the US and overseas.
In addition to her large and varied repertoire of vocal standards, bossa nova, Latin, and blues, Dorian has written lyrics for over 3 dozen jazz standards, and has cowriting credit with Wayne Shorter, Lou Rainone and others.
Her voice has been described as “a cool, unadorned mezzo-soprano that harks back to golden age songbirds from June Christy to Peggy Lee” and her performance “is tart, precise, and swinging" with “phrasing presently (that) has no peer.”
Her first CD, The Procrastinator, was voted a “Best Recording of 2013” on All About Jazz., and her two 2017 recordings, Imaginary Release and City Stories, received enthusiastic reviews .
Dorian performs with her own trio, quartet and quintet, as well as with other ensembles .
